Erwin’s Denim Days get started Monday

Daily activities lead up to main day-long event Oct. 6


Erwin’s 54th annual Denim Days get started Monday and will continue through the week. Although the main day-long event will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, the celebration will continue on Sunday, Oct. 7 with a musical performance.

Festivities will include:

On Monday, there will be a Family Movie Night hosted by Redemption Hill Church and the Erwin Area Chamber of Commerce in the Erwin Elementary School Auditorium. The screening will begin at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, there will be a golf tournament at 1 p.m. at Chicora Golf Club.

A street dance, “Evening in Erwin,” featuring music by The Lenny Epps Revue will be from 7 until 10 p.m. Friday in downtown Erwin on H Street.

Saturday’s activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown and will include more than 75 vendors, lots of food, activities for the kids and a full line-up of entertainment. A parade will kick off at 10 a.m.

Live music will be performed by the Tim Morris Band, The Aviators and Teddy Byrd.

Back again this year will be the Baby Denim and Doggy Denim contests. Registration for these events will take place at the Erwin Chamber booth. Baby Denim registration will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. The contest will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Erwin Gazebo. Doggy Denim registration will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the contest will be at 1:30 p.m.

New this year is the “Denim Days of Thunder,” a pinewood derby race hosted by the Erwin Church of God Royal Rangers. This will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, and is open to children in kindergarten to fifth grade. Car kits are available for $5 each. The Denim Days finale will be a musical, “Experiencing God,” performed by a Community Choir at First Baptist Church of Erwin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.
