Erwin Juniors win Tar Heel District IV championship

Bradham strikes out 15 in 10U softball; Burns and Williams combine for no-hitter in 10U baseball

Erwin brought home the Tar Heel Leagues District IV championship with a 13-2 win in six innings over Western Harnett at Al Woodall Municipal Park on Wednesday.

Dillon Faircloth pitched the full six innings for Erwin, allowing no earned runs on four hits while striking out nine to get the win.

Shay Jackson had a stellar night at the plate, leading Erwin with four hits and four runs scored. Carter Daughtry added three hits and two runs scored. Faircloth and Jake Tyndall each had two hits and one run scored. Jeremiah Streeter had one hit and two runs scored. Hayden Campbell, Nathan Barefoot and C.J. Herring each had one hit and one run scored.

Dawson Dietrichson had two hits and one run scored to lead Western’s offense. Seth McCoy and Aniel Lopez added one hit each and Tristan Giddens scored once.

Erwin won game one of the best-of-three series 7-2 on Tuesday. Jackson was the winning pitcher.

Erwin will now move on to represent District IV in the Tar Heel Leagues state tournament, which will be played in Smithfield starting on Thursday, July 25.

10-and-under softball

Erwin advanced to the 10-and-under softball District IV final with a 10-1 win over Western Harnett on Wednesday.

Sydney Bradham was on fire in the circle, allowing just one earned run on one hit while striking out an impressive 15 batters to get the complete-game win.

Charley Beasley had two hits and three runs scored and Megan Harrold had two hits and one run scored to lead the Erwin attack. Bradham also had a multi-hit outing with a pair of base knocks. Mackenzie Lucas had one hit and two runs scored. Grace Foisy tripled and scored a run. Bryleigh Smith and Adison Bowden each had one hit and one run scored. Leigha Roberts scored once.

Virginia Howsden had one hit and Natalie Taylor scored the lone run for Western.

Western turned around and played an elimination game, beating Parkwood 9-5 to stay alive.

Destiny Bryant posted three hits, including a double, and two runs scored and Madison Wear added three hits, including a double, and one run scored to lead Western offensively. Serenity McLean tallied a pair of hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Morgan McCauley had two hits and one run scored. Howsden and Yasmin Macias each had one hit and scored one run. Destiny McKendall also scored once.

The win moved Western to the final for a rematch with Erwin on Thursday. Erwin needed one win to take the championship, while Western needed to win twice.

10-and-under baseball

Sandhills defeated Western Harnett American in the winners’ bracket and Erwin beat Western Harnett National in an elimination game in the 10-and-under baseball District IV tournament.

Sandhills advanced to the final after edging out Erwin 11-8 in a back-and-forth battle on Tuesday and no-hitting Western American for a 12-0 win on Wednesday.

Erwin stayed alive as Eli Burns and Austin Williams combined for a no-hitter. Burns allowed just one earned run on one walk and one hit batter, with five strikeouts. Williams pitched two innings, giving up one earned run on one hit batter, with two strikeouts.

Conner Parrish had two hits and three runs scored to lead Erwin offensively. Brody Ennis and Aiden McNeill each had two hits and one run scored. Landon McLamb had two hits. Kaiden Jensen and Williams each had one hit and two runs scored. Jaylen Johnson had one hit and one run scored. Burns had one hit. Palmer Ennis and Kymere McNeill each scored once.

Western Harnett National did not record a hit, but Jeremiah Smith and Evan Maynard each scored a run.

The win moved Erwin into a second elimination game Thursday against Western American, which beat Western National 14-5 on Tuesday before Wednesday’s loss to Sandhills. The winner advanced to face Sandhills in the final.
