The Erwin Area Chamber of Commerce has a new administrator and she has hit the floor running in preparation of the town’s upcoming Denim Days Festival. The 54th annual fall celebration will take place Oct. 1-7.
Eleni Kelley and her husband, Shane, moved to Erwin two years ago from Flint, Mich., along with their 4-year-old son, Levi.
“Our friends are local pastors here and they were looking for someone to help with their music ministry, so my husband and I decided to make the move here two years ago,” Mrs Kelley said. “And we’ve loved it ever since.”
Mrs. Kelley is a pianist and Mr. Kelley plays the guitar. They are members of a praise team at The ROC (Redemption Outreach Center) in Dunn.
Mrs. Kelley is a 2014 graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in visual communication.
A stay-at-home mom, she has been working as a freelance graphic designer designing business cards, logos, brochures and other things for small businesses and churches in the area. She will continue her freelance work along with working part-time for the Erwin Chamber.
Mrs. Kelley is filling the position previously held by Carla Blackmon, whose final day was Aug. 31.
Mrs. Kelley’s first day was Sept. 10 right before Hurricane Florence hit the area. She said she is in Denim Days stage and is learning. She hopes to bring more businesses to Erwin and has a few ideas for other events.
“I know there are a lot of different events in Flint that maybe could benefit this town as well,” Mrs. Kelley said.
