Elma Ruth Pemberton Price, 88, of Lillington, N.C., (formerly of Kingston, Tenn.) passed away at home with family by her side on July 8, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles E. Price; parents, Bernice McDonald Pemberton and Walter H. Pemberton; sister, Joan Pemberton; and sister-in-law, Norma Price. She was born on June 29, 1930, in Livingston, Tenn.
She grew up in Huntsville, Tenn., with many close friends and family and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Huntsville High School in 1947. She attended Mayville College and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1951 with a B.S in Home Economics. Elma taught elementary school in Ohio and Indiana from 1951 until 1958. She returned to teaching in 1968 as the librarian at Kingston Elementary School until her retirement in 1995. Elma influenced many young students and library helpers in her years of teaching and encouraged all to love reading. She loved gardening and the beautiful plants and wildflowers found in the hills and mountains of Tennessee. She was a kind and loving person who devoted her life to her family and provided exceptional care for her parents and sister in their last years. She was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church since 1963.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Allen Price and Deborah Hedgecock Price of Huntsville, Ala., and David Pemberton Price, DDS, and Melody Marsalis Price of Lillington, N.C.; grandchildren, Brandon Allen Price (Amanda), Natalie Anne Richardson (Scott), Meredith Lee Price, Dillon James Price (Bethany), Mollie Elizabeth Cannady (Jim) and Marshall David Price (Anne); great-grandchildren, Temple Lee Cannady, Palmer James Cannady, Rylee Scott Price, Rosalie Anne Richardson and Bella Ruth Price; brother-in-law, James F. Price of Sun City, Fla.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Senior Helpers of Dunn, N.C., and Liberty Hospice. And to her very special caretakers who became faithful friends, Brandy Ray, Emma Brewington, Sequewne Brown, Connie Gilliam and Doris McDougald.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Mossop Memorial Cemetery, Huntsville, Tenn. The Rev. Sue Lynn Johnson of Kingston United Methodist Church will officiate.
