DWI checkpoint nets 1 impaired driver, 6 fugitives

One driver was cited for driving while impaired in a recent DWI checkpoint that netted six fugitives, recovered one stolen firearm and resulted in a total of 67 charges, according to a release from the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division worked with members of the Harnett County DWI Task Force in the checkpoint at the intersection of N.C. Highway 210 South and Hayes Road in Spring Lake July 6.

Officers from both agencies, including the Coats and Erwin police departments, cited three drivers for operating a car without a license, 25 for driving with a revoked license, one for having an open container, one for a seatbelt violation, one for a child restraint violation and 15 for registration violations. The 67 charges also included four misdemeanor drug violations, four insurance violations and five other traffic violations, according to the release.
