Defense leads Coats-Erwin past Overhills


Tucker Brown and Wyatt Avery combined to pitch a two-hitter, and a strong team defensive effort was key for the Coats-Erwin baseball team in taking a 4-1 win at Overhills Monday afternoon.

Coats – Erwin is now 3 – 0 on the season, while Overhills falls to 0 – 3.

Brown pitched four innings for the Falcons, allowing only one hit while striking out seven to earn the win. Avery earned the save in relief, allowing one hit in the final three innings.

Leading the Falcons offensively with one hit apiece were Hunter Thompson, Jalen Evans, Avery, Brown, and Jaleel White, who played an outstanding defensive game at first base. Braxton Davis had two RBIs.

The Falcons host Western Harnett on Monday.
