To the editor:
My mom subscribes to your paper and shares each paper with me. I was born in Erwin in 1958, then moved to Wilmington in 1984 due to a job opportunity. Love The Daily Record. Keep up the good work!
I would like to happily respond to D.G. Walker’s letter to you dated Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 [Record Forum, “‘Dear Abby’ needs to go”]. I totally disagree with his comments concerning the “Dear Abby” column. I have enjoyed her column since I was a child. I am now 61 years old. Abby offers great advice that has helped me through the years by presenting a different perspective in difficult situations. Her column is not salacious and immoral. In Mr. Walker’s letter he admitted that he “never paid much attention to it.” Then why does he think he should judge her?
If he doesn’t like the column, then I suggest he skip over it and perhaps read the cartoon section, or does he consider cartoons to be immoral and “garbage” also? How dare he suggest occupying the “Dear Abby” space with something else?
I, a devoted “Dear Abby” fan, hope he realizes that everyone has a right to their own opinion — not just him.
Mr. Walker, I want Abby, so leave her alone!
