Many churches in the area will celebrate “Cancer Survivor Sunday” on Sunday with special recognition during their Sunday service.
Although the first Sunday in March was designated as Cancer Survivor Appreciation Sunday, many churches and organizations celebrate at different times. Survivors go through a lot during their treatments and by sharing their testimonies, it encourages other survivors to know they are not alone in the fight.
Cancer Survivors are invited to attend the Johnston County Relay for Life “Survivor Banquet” which will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at the American Legion in Benson, 605 N. Wall St.
Cancer Survivors are asked to register to attend this banquet at www.relayforlife.org/johnstonnc, or call Beth Girardi at 919-210-2151 to RSVP.
The actual “Johnston County Relay for Life Event” will be held on the football field of Smithfield-Selma High School on Saturday, May 11. It will be a full day of fun and fellowship starting with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., survivor and caregiver recognition laps, all day entertainment, team crafts, raffles, variety of food available, luminary services and continuing through closing ceremonies at 10 p.m. All money spent and raised during the Relay event goes to the American Cancer Society. Everyone is invited to attend. To get involved as a team, or for more information, call Beth Giradi at 919-210-2151.
