A dusting to nearly 4 inches of snow fell on the area Thursday night — the first snow of the season — prompting snowman creations and even a music video in celebration.
Staff and teachers at South Johnston High School created a music video to celebrate the snow day after the school’s early release on Thursday.
“Weather coming maybe county makes the call / But I know it’s gon’ fall / Come Friday mornin’ there’ll be / No school for us all,” staff members sang in the “Ol’ JoCo Road” video, a parody of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Students in Harnett County were able to enjoy two snow days with classes canceled on Thursday and Friday.

A little more than 2 inches reportedly fell in Lillington during the snowstorm, according to preliminary totals reported by the National Weather Service in Raleigh Friday. Johnston County noted 3.8 inches in northwest Nahunta, 3.5 inches in Clayton and 2.5 inches in Benson. One and a half inches were counted in Broadway, 1.8 inches in Spivey’s Corner and at least an inch in Newton Grove.
