Border treatment doesn’t fit principles

To the editor:

The separation of children from their families is a part of genocide and has been exhibited in these lands already with the cultural genocide of Native Americans, in situations such as the residential schools.

On top of this, these children are being kept in unsafe conditions furthering the suffering they must go through.

These families are already going through a difficult time as they are simply trying to find a safer place to live and the treatment they’ve been receiving at the U.S. border is reminiscent of the misdeeds Americans have committed in past generations.

This country is supposed to be a land of freedom and opportunity, a place where people are free from persecution and this treatment of other humans at the border does not fit in with the American ideal.
